Kristin's new column at E!
It's worse than tax day--or wax day--for us die-hard fans. And though it happens every year, it never gets any easier.
I'm talking about the TV Upfronts, which begin May 15 in New York City, when the networks announce their new fall schedules and we find out which shows will--or (gulp) won't--make it another season.
This year, the wait is especially nerve-racking, because some quality shows are in danger of cancellation. (Not to mention we've already lost some beloved greats, like Arrested Development, Alias, Reunion, The West Wing, Will & Grace, etc.--and there is only so much we can endure before we take a sledgehammer to our tellies.)
That said, unlike wax day, we're not going to take this lying down, but instead we're going to rally the troops and do everything in our power to save our fave.
And so I present...our fifth annual SOS: Save One Show campaign, in which you, the die-hard TV fans, weigh in on the one TV series you want to rescue from cancellation. The process is easy. Simply look over the list of endangered series below (these are all the series that have not yet been picked up for another season), and decide on the one series you cannot live without. Then email me with the name of your chosen show as the subject line.
We'll narrow down the list to the top five next week (Apr. 28), and then the winner will be announced the following week (May 5). That chosen show will receive a huge shout-out of support that will appear on E! Online, E! Television and also be mailed directly to the network decision-makers and a few influential friends I happen to have. (You know I'm not one to name-drop. My fake boyfriends John Stamos and Wentworth Miller don't like that.)
Please keep in mind that you should base your vote not only on how much you love each show, but how likely it is to be canceled. The following shows all have not yet been picked up for next season and are divided by how likely it is they will survive.
ENDANGERED SERIES
Likely to Be Saved: George Lopez, Gilmore Girls, The New Adventures of Old Christine, The O.C., Reba, Scrubs, Smallville, Veronica Mars and The Unit.
On the Fence: According to Jim, Close to Home, Commander in Chief, Conviction, E-Ring, Everwood, The Evidence, Freddie, Girlfriends, Hope & Faith, In Justice, Invasion, Out of Practice, Sons & Daughters, Supernatural, Teachers, The War at Home and What About Brian.
Likely Doomed: All of Us, The Bedford Diaries, Courting Alex, Cuts, Eve, Free Ride, Half & Half, Joey, Less Than Perfect, Living with Fran, The Loop, Love, Inc., Modern Men, One on One, One Tree Hill, Pepper Dennis, Related, Rodney, Surface and Twins.
As you may know, this SOS campaign has had a pretty solid track record over the years (four of the five winning shows were saved for at least another season, including Roswell, Once and Again, Angel and Veronica Mars), so this poll really can make a difference. Don't forget to email me your one show (I know, it's a tough call). And then email this link to everyone you know and get them on board, because there really is strength in numbers.
